2023 survey results
In 2023, we piloted our very first WetGenie survey and got responses from many PhD students in biomedical sciences and other related experimental disciplines. The students came from schools such as UPenn, Columbia, NCSU, and UCSD.
📣 Shout out to all our respondents 📣 !
Here are the highlights.
Roughly 50% of experiments are done to fine-tune or repeat a previous experiment.
Protocol printout is the most common way to refer to a protocol during an experiment.
Changing a protocol mid-way through an experiment is common. Almost 20% of respondents modify a protocol more than half of the time.
During an experiment, note taking on a physical notebook or on the protocol printout is the norm and likely on a piece of tissue.
Things often don't go as planned. For those who experience post-experiment anxiety, we understand!
After experiments, documentations live on both physical notebooks and the computer. Data integration (from physical to digital format) is almost always required.
How many times do we think to ourselves: "Oopsy, I forgot how I did that step..." You are not alone. Kudos to the ones that always remember.
